Niacinamide in Cosmetics: The Power Vitamin
Vitamin B3 for the Face
Niacinamide, aka vitamin B3 or niacin, is a water-soluble substance that has been shown to have a positive effect on the skin according to numerous clinical studies. It is often used in water-based serums such as the MUKTI Vital B Elixir.

Properties
1. Anti-aging Effect
The vitamin B3 derivative is rich in antioxidants that protect the skin against free radicals, which in turn counteracts premature skin aging. It stimulates lipid production and the skin's ability to produce collagen and elastin. The result is a firmer, smoother and more resilient complexion. The appearance of fine lines is toned down with regular use.
2. Strengthens the protective function of the skin & moisturises
Studies have shown that the substance has regenerating effects on damaged skin barriers. Vitamin B3 supports the body through the formation of lipids and ceramides that are essential for the protective function of the skin. A skin barrier that is intact protects against moisture loss and provides increased resistance against external influences. Therefore, products containing niacinamide are best suited for dry skin types.
3. Minimises the appearance of large pores
With regular use, pores are tightened and their appearance minimised. Not only does the skin appear more refined and even-looking, but make-up primers and foundations are less likely to clog the pores.
4. Skin-soothing properties
The vitamin B3 derivative supports the skin in its regenerative process and ensures that fewer skin irritations occur.
5. Reduces skin impurities & mattifies oiliness
Niacinamide regulates sebum production and can contribute to mattifying the T-zone. Furthermore, the vitamin possesses antibacterial properties and can result in an even-looking complexion and fewer skin impurities.
6. Counteracts discolouration
The vitamin B3 derivative is known to inhibit melanin synthesis which in turn fades dark pigmentation spots and encourages skin radiance.
A word of caution: A high concentration of niacinamide can lead to temporary redness because it dilates the blood vessels for a short period. It is advised to use products with a 1 - 5% concentration of niacinamide when you are a beginner. In contrast, those experienced in using the substance or dealing with mature skin types can opt for serums with a concentration of up to 10%.
